Challenges of remote work: "Making the right environment"

In order for you to do remote work, where employees work without coming to the office, you need to set up a work environment similar to working at the office. This article will briefly explain how MiiTel will solve the following 4 main concerns of building a remote work environment.

 

 

1. Difficult to prepare network environment

Recommendation: Use MiiTel Phone Mobile

Depending on your internet connection, there could be many concerns. You might have difficulties setting up the recommended network environment. You might have to check if the quality of your network is good enough. Also maybe you have to double-check your contract and see if you might have to make some changes.

To solve these concerns, you can use the smartphone application called MiiTel Phone Mobile, to make calls using your smartphone's mobile connection without going through your home Internet.
MiiTel Phone Mobile allows you to make and receive both outside and internal calls just like the MiiTel Phone you use on your PC. If you are having difficulties setting up the network environment, try making calls using MiiTel Phone Mobile.

2. Ensure security

Idea: Use VPN and MiiTel's IP address restriction feature

In order to use MiiTel safely from remote work locations without security concerns, you can try combining VPN (Virtual Private Network) connection and IP address restriction.

By registering the global IP address of your VPN server to MiiTel and using MiiTel via VPN, you can make calls using MiiTel with the same security as you are actually making calls from your office.

If you have similar concerns like, "I'm considering using VPN so that not only I can make calls on MiiTel but I can also use other internal systems from outside the company with trustable security, but it takes time to set up and I can't make the right environment to work from home." you can use a managed service like AWS VPN. By using such a service, you can quickly build a secure environment.

 

3. Incoming calls to the main phone number

Recommended: Call Forwarding to MiiTel Phone Number

Currently, the majority are staying at home due to the COVID-19 pandemic. However, there may be some cases you have to come to the office just to make or receive calls to the main phone number. For this case, by forwarding incoming calls to MiiTel's phone number, you can use MiiTel to answer calls from home.

To forward calls from your current phone number to MiiTel, you will need to ask your current carrier to set up the call forwarding.

After setting up call forwarding, you will be able to use MiiTel to answer incoming calls. If you need assistance with configuration, adding users, phone numbers, or corporate IDs, please feel free to contact Support.

 

4. Prepare your headset

Recommended: USB-connection type headset with the noise-canceling feature

MiiTel recommends a USB-connection type headset with a noise-canceling feature (wired-type) for calls due to the following reasons.

  • Earphone microphones and PC built-in microphones have a tendency to pick up surrounding noise
  • Bluetooth earphones and headsets (wireless connection) are sensitive to interference from electromagnetic waves generated by the surrounding Wi-Fi, home appliances such as microwave ovens, and fixed-line telephone handsets.
  • Wired-type earphones and headsets are better than wireless devices for audio degradation and latency.
  • In order to check the quality of the call recordings easily, MiiTel records the calls for both customer and operator sides separately (stereo recording).
